It was just another day of his perfect vacation for Jeff. Jeff was lying on the beach, drifting in and out of sleep. His eyes peered open as he saw a man standing over him. He closed his eyes, because he thought he must be dreaming. Only a drop of blood falling on his forehead awoke him. As he wiped it off, he opened his eyes to see what was on him. He awoke immediately as he saw the crimson color. He looked up to see a tall, brooding man wearing a grey blood-stained hooded sweatshirt standing over him with a machete. He stumbled away. Running with fear, his heartbeat was steadily increasing. Where did this man come from? Why was he standing over Jeff? Jeff's entire life flashed before him in a matter of seconds. His first day of school, meeting Karen (his first girlfriend,) joining the football team in high school, leaving home for college, marrying Sarah (his wife) and arguing with Sarah over who should take out the trash before he left for vacation. He knew he had to get away from the tall man. He had to tell Sarah he loved her. He started running along the shoreline. He ran side by side along the emerald sea. The tall man had not moved. But Jeff kept running. Something did not feel right. He ran as fast as he could. He started to lose his breath. Jeff was not an athlete anymore. He was a desk jockey. The most exercise he got was walking from his office to his car. Jeff collapsed. 'Oh no, Sarah..I'm sorry..' The tall man was only a couple hundred yards away still standing still holding the machete, dripping blood on the sand. Slowly, the tall man started to move towards Jeff. The man moved at a pace that seemed only to scare Jeff. Always a step away. If he was going to die, he wanted to die now. Jeff closed his eyes, dreaming of Sarah. He felt a drop of blood on his forehead, like earlier. As he opened his eyes and looked up, the man spoke to him in a gravely tone.
We cannot walk alone.
And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead.
We cannot turn back.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."
Jeff questioned why would this mad man quote a great man, like Martin Luther King Jr? As he looked up, he saw the machete heading for his heart. He rolled just in time for the machete to cleanly miss. The adrenaline kicked in and Jeff got his second wind. He got up and ran. He ran for his life. He did not run along the emerald sea, he ran towards Sarah and home. He knew he could not walk alone, run alone or be alone. He knew he would march ahead. And if he got away, he would not look down on a man due to race, social status or any reason. he knew that all men are created equal. Jeff ran and he ran as the tall man stood still. Jeff made it away from the beach and hailed the closest taxi to the airport to find a flight home. Back on the beach, the tall man removed his hood and there stood Martin Luther King Jr. He said as he licked the red caro syrup off of his machete, "I Still Have a Dream and now he is and hopefully all can say we are Free at last! Free at last!Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

LOL Excellent surprise ending. I was beginning to wonder what was up with the story, but the ending totally perfected it. Good job! 5! :)
