Rebbecca Morrison walked into her cozy kitchen. Looking out the window, she smile as she watched the pure white snowflakes falling gently to the ground. "It's amazing that God can make so many snowflakes, but how each is different and unique," she thought to herself, "Just like people." Just the thought of people (one person in particular) gave Rebbecca's heart a lurch. Her thoughts were interrupted by a bang as the front door slammed shut. Rebbecca's face lit up as she ran into the other room.
"Darling, you're home!" she cried.
"Yes, dear," responded Robert Morrison, amused. "I normally do get home around this time."
"Yes, but I haven't even begun to prepare supper!" Rebbecca responded despondently.
"'Tis alright, m'dear," Robert replied, "I want to take my favorite wife out for dinner tonight."
"Your favorite?" Rebbecca replied playfully. "Just how many wives do you have hidden away?"
"Dozens. None nearly as perfect as you, though." He said the last part while looking intently into her eyes.
Blushing, Rebbecca grabbed her coat. "Well, let's go then, love."

"Gosh, honey...what's the special occasion?" Rebbecca asked as they pulled into the fanciest restaurant in town.
"Can't I even take my wife anywhere special on our one year anniversary?"
"Is it that time already? Hmm...It seems longer." Rebbecca teased.
"That's gratitude for you," Robert playfully pouted. "Come on, let's get inside. It's cold."
******************************
"Darling, dinner was incredible." Rebbecca smiled at Robert.
Robert shrugged. "It would have been fancier, but you know how it is in small towns."
Rebbecca smiled. "I have something for you."
"Oh, dear, what do you want?" Robert groaned.
"Can't I even give my husband anything on our one year anniversary?" Rebbecca joked.
"You can give me something any time. I'm very give-something-to-able," Robert responded, trying unsuccessfully to look innocent.
"Well, here. Open it."
Robert opened the present and pulled out a beautiful hand-crafted cross stitch of their wedding picture. "Oh, Rebbecca, it's beautiful!" He exclaimed. He got up and gave her a kiss.
"Robert! Not in public!" She admonished him. However, she was thrilled that he liked it.
"I have something for you, too," he said slyly.
"But what? You already gave me dinner."
"No, I gave us dinner. I have something for you." He reached into his side pocket and pulled out a small box. "Open it."
She opened it to see a diamond heart. "Robert & Rebbecca" was inscribed on the heart.
"I know I'm not supposed to give diamonds til later, but I figured "what the heck." After all, you only live once." He said nervously.
"Oh, darling, I love it!"
"Oh, good." Robert breathed a sigh of relief.
"You shouldn't have spent so much money, though."
He groaned. "I knew that was coming. Listen, I already bought it and I tore the receipt into a billion little pieces so that I couldn't take it back."
"You know me too well," Rebbecca replied and gave him a kiss.
"Not in public, dear," Robert teased before signaling the waiter for the bill.
*************************
Rebbecca woke up. What happened? Suddenly, memories came back to her with a jerk. Laughing over fond memories, looking at the road, screaming, and darkness all swirled around her head in a whirlwind. Robert! She tried to get up. She didn't have the strength. Glancing around the room, she saw her mom. What was her mother doing here? When did she get here? Had she been crying? Why would she be crying? How long had Rebbecca been asleep?
"Rebbecca!" her mother exclaimed when she saw her daughter awake. "I was so worried about you!"
"Mom..." Rebbecca whispered.
"No, dear. Don't talk. There will be plenty time for that later. Oh, thank God you're awake!"
"Robert?"
"Don't worry about Robert. Just worry about getting well." Her mother sounded choked.
Then blackness overtook her.
**************************
Waking up later, Rebbecca felt much better. How long had it been and what exactly happened were questions that no one would keep her from asking now. First thing's first, though.
"Mom, how's Robert? Where is he? Why can't he be in here, too?" She asked.
"Honey, I told you. We'll talk later."
"No, Mom. Now is later. I'm a grown woman."
Her mother bit her lip. "Honey, I don't want to tell you this..." She looked at Rebbecca with eyes that told all.
"NO! You're not serious? No!"
"Honey, I'm sorry. The impact of the crash killed him immediately"
"No," Rebbecca whispered, "Not Robert. No. No. No." Sobs wracked her body. A nurse rushed into the room, but Rebbecca hardly noticed. She hardly felt the pain of the needle as the nurse injected her with a sedative. Blackness overtook her once more and she cried even in her sleep. "I loved him and he died," were the words painfully cried as she drifted into nothingness.
