To be or not to be - a mother

She couldn't believe she heard him correctly. "What?", she asked.

"I do not want anymore children", he replied. The calmness of his words struck a nerve deep inside. Suddenly everything became clear. She would have to make her own decisions for her life without him and she alone would face the consequences of those decisions.

"I understand" was all she could say as she sat down on the floor not trusting her legs to hold her any longer.

This was a very strange place for her to be. For 11 very long years he had been on her side, he had made the decisions for them, he had been her stability, such as it was, and now she was on her own. Her heart began to race, could she do this without him? Could she do anything without him? Her resolve answered back "Absolutely, don't be stupid".

She regained her feet, opened the front door, looked him in the eyes and said, "Go home to your wife and kids."

"And what will you do?", he asked.

"I'm going ahead without you."

She closed and locked the door behind him.
